Head of School Blog - Week 8

We have come to the end of a very successful half term at the Academy.  Our students and staff have achieved so much during the last 8 weeks and I am sure they are looking forward to a well-deserved half term holiday.  Our Year 11 Executive Prefect team met for the first time on 8th October to help plan for the coming academic year.  They will be supporting and leading on key areas of our academy development plan including; student voice, student well-being, charity, sport and transition work.  They are a very committed and inspiring group to work with and we are looking forward to the opportunities that their hard work will bring to our student community. Students and staff continue to work hard daily to ensure that we achieve our vision to be ‘outstanding in all we do’. Can I please ask for your support in completing the parent voice survey using the link below. Your feedback will be used to celebrate good practice as well as helping us to focus on areas of priority. We are incredibly proud of our school community and we look forward to your engagement. Parent Voice link: Parent Voice - Hope Academy 2019 (Deadline: Monday 4th November) I am pleased to confirm that the Year 7 Welcome Service, which was postponed earlier this month, will now take place on Wednesday 13th November at 6.00pm.  We look forward to welcoming parents and carers to this very special evening. Finally, I would like to thank you, our parent community for your continued support which is, as always, very much appreciated.   Kindest regards, Mrs M Adams - Head of School

Head of School Blog - Weeks 5-7

Our community has experienced a difficult few weeks.  It was with great sadness that we informed students that Mr Brooker passed away on Tuesday 1st October.  Mr Brooker was a History teacher in his third year of teaching and was a much loved and respected member of our community.  He will be sorely missed by all at the academy.  We will be holding a staff memorial service on Wednesday 16th October to celebrate Mr Brooker’s life.  This will be led by Kasia and Rev Dr Chris Stafford.  We are also making arrangements for students to reflect and I look forward to sharing these plans with you. Staff and students have been sharing memories throughout the week, which we have sent to Josh’s family along with the many Mass cards and sympathy cards we have received.  We pray for Mr Brooker’s family and friends at this very sad time. I am pleased to inform you that Crusade, a group of extremely talented year 11 students, won the Plumbstock Battle of the Bands competition.  The event was held at the Tunza Centre in St Helens.  As winners, Crusade played a full set to open the Plumbstock Festival.  I think we will be hearing much more from this group in the very near future! Well done boys and thank you for representing the Academy and being ‘Outstanding in all we do.’ Mr Crook, Head of Year 9, had an extremely successful weekend playing in the Promotion Final for Oldham RLFC. The ‘Roughyeds’ ran out 18-14 winners in a nerve-jangling game which was their 11th win in 12 matches.  They have now achieved promotion to the Championship.  It was sadly his last game for Oldham as he moves on to pastures new taking on the role of Reserve Team Assistant Coach at St Helens RLFC.   Last year our students, led by Mr Kelly, researched, designed and produced pieces of artwork using images depicting the history of the Chat Moss line from the 1830s to 2019.  The project was designed to encourage children and young adults to understand and appreciate the historic relevance of the Chat Moss Line and showcase the newly refurbished Newton-le-Willows Station.  We have been informed that the impressive 20 metre piece of art, which is displayed at Newton Station, has been awarded second place in the Involving Children and Young People category at the Community Rail Awards 2019.  Congratulations to all the students who took part in the project and massive thanks to Mr Kelly for supporting them with their designs.  Mr Kelly was able to secure a copy of the artwork which is now displayed in the academy main entrance corridor.     Last week during year group collective worship, Mrs Hible (SENCo) spoke with students regarding World Mental Health Day.  It was a great opportunity to raise awareness of mental health issues and advocate against social stigma.  Mrs Hible concentrated on how to manage stress in school, home and socially.  The Academy has a number of ways they support students with the pressures of life and they were asked to think of other ideas which they feel would support them further.  YoungMinds are the UK’s leading charity fighting for children and young people’s mental health.  To find out more about them click the following link Finally, you will be receiving an important parent text this week regarding our updated Attendance Policy. Kindest regards Mrs M Adams - Head of School
