Head of School Blog - Week 11

As you are aware, from Wednesday 2nd December Newton-le-Willows has been placed into Tier 2 restrictions.  Please ensure your children continue to wear masks whilst travelling on school buses and public transport.  They also need to continue to wear face masks in all communal areas within the academy. The Government will review the tier allocation on Monday 16th December.  For further information click HERE.

SOCIAL DISTANCING

We have received a number of reports from the local community regarding students not observing social distancing rules whilst travelling to and from school. Please remind your children of the heightened risk of COVID-19 transmission when social distancing rules are not adhered to.  It has also been reported that some students are not wearing masks when using public transport.  As you are aware, masks are to be worn when using school and public buses. Students may be refused access to bus services if they do not wear masks for the entirety of their journey. Please click HERE for further information on safer travel guidance for passengers.

MINDFUL MONDAYS

Here at Hope we appreciate that during COVID that our students may find things difficult and hard to manage.  We are delivering student wellbeing sessions during our Inspire Programme each week and have been since September to support our students.

We are now pleased to be launching our new weekly student wellbeing survey that has been named “Mindful Mondays” by our Student Executive team.

We will send the survey via Satchel One to all students across all year groups each Monday morning for them to complete.  Student voice will ensure that we help and give our students any support they need through these times.

We will continue to work hard to improve the mind-set, happiness, health and life satisfaction of all our students. Please encourage your child to take part in Mindful Mondays through the survey on Satchel One.

ADVENT BINGO

Advent is the period leading up to Christmas, which celebrates the birth of Jesus.  We can remember this as we celebrate with an Advent Calendar and embrace the themes of hope, joy and preparation.  In each December Inspire session students will create an advent bingo calendar that will promote kindness; both to ourselves and to others. Click here for further information.

The academy are now an authorised distributor of food vouchers which means we are able to support struggling families much easier as we do not need to refer them to other agencies to obtain food vouchers.  Vouchers can be used at foodbanks throughout the borough.  There will also be a new foodbank opening at Newton Community Centre as of 4th December.  This facility will be open each Friday from 11.00am – 2.30pm. Please see Kasia for further information.

ADVERSE WEATHER

I wrote to you on 25th November to confirm the academy’s adverse weather procedure. Click HERE to view letter.  I have asked you to complete a simple survey which will advise us of your wishes should we need to put adverse weather arrangements in place. Please complete the google form by Friday 4th December. Click HERE to access form.

KASIA’S REFLECTION

’For I know the plans I have for you,’ declares the Lord. ‘Plans to prosper you and not to harm you. Plans to give you hope and a future.’ (Jeremiah 29:11)

This week we have been looking at enterprise and careers, as part of our second Careers week. The Bible tells us that God has a plan for each of our lives, and it is far bigger than we can imagine, or plan for ourselves. If your dream or aspiration for your future feels a bit big or overwhelming, remember that God made you, gave you your own unique gifts and talents, and will give you the courage to follow your dreams if you ask for it.

St. Oscar Romero told us to ‘aspire not to have more but to be more.’ Quite often people forget about what they want to be for others, and focus on the material things they want to own. Oscar Romero stood up for others to fight against injustice, and wanted us to think about the type of person we wanted to become rather than the material possessions we could have.

When you think about your future, do you see the person you want to be, or do you focus on what you could earn..?

Dear Lord,

You have created us with many gifts and talents to share with the world.

Give us the courage to set out into the world on our mission and enterprise.

May we remember the importance of aspiring to be more rather than to have more.

Amen.

Kind regards

Mrs Adams
