Head of School Blog - Week 12

Churches across St Helens will gather on Monday 7th December to pray for the town and give thanks to school staff for their dedication and commitment to the children of the borough. We received a lovely letter from the churches thanking schools for supporting children and families through challenging circumstances.

Can parents and carers please contact your child’s pastoral team if your family have suffered a recent bereavement or are dealing with issues that could affect your child’s wellbeing or mental health.  Academy staff are here to help and will put plans in place to support your son or daughter.

Year 11 are now half way through their mock examinations. I am extremely proud of how they have approached their mocks including attendance at raising achievement sessions before and after school and the maturity they have shown during this week.  Their behaviour and attitude has been amazing and I would just like to thank you, as parents, for supporting your sons and daughters at this important time.  Exams continue next week and I am sure that our Class of 2021 will continue with their fantastic attitude and work ethic.  Thank you to all staff especially Miss Houghton and Miss Brown for supporting year 11 during the week.

Click HERE for daily exam arrangements.  The Hope Study Zone will be open each morning from 8.15am throughout the mock examination period. Breakfast snacks and drinks will be available.

Here at Hope we appreciate that during COVID our students may find things difficult and hard to understand and manage.  We are delivering student wellbeing sessions during our Inspire Programme each week and have been since September to support our students.

We are now pleased to be launching our new student wellbeing programme that we have named “Mindful Mondays”.

We are sending a survey via Satchel One to all students across all year groups each Monday morning for them to complete by asking them a few quick questions.  We can then help and give our students any support they need through these times.

On Monday, 7th December 2020, Sefton Street, Earlestown will be closed in both directions at its junction with Harvey Avenue. This is to carry out repairs to a defective manhole in the carriageway. The closure is expected to be in place for ONE day which will mean that our 722 bus service has to re-route.  Click HERE for further details.

The academy are now an authorised distributor of food vouchers which means we are able to support struggling families much easier as we do not need to refer them to other agencies to obtain food vouchers which can be used at foodbanks throughout the borough.  There will also be a new foodbank opening at Newton Community Centre as of 4th December.  This facility will be open each Friday from 11.00am – 2.30pm. Please see Kasia for further information.

WORD OF THE WEEK – w/b Monday 7th December

Exploit 7 12 20

Advent Sunday was the first day of the Advent Season when we begin the waiting and joyful preparation for the celebration of Jesus' birth as our Saviour.  After a tough year, Christmas brings comfort and joy to a world that is weary and hurting. The message of the baby born in Bethlehem is that God comes to us, walks with us and stays with us.

As our nights grow longer and our days grow shorter, we think about the light of the Advent Wreath and remember God’s promise to our world. Advent is a time to celebrate light in the midst of darkness. Each candle lit reminds us of the hope, peace, joy and love that we can spread throughout the world.

How can you use Advent to bring light into the world?

God of Light and Hope,

Fill our lives with courage and strength to journey through Advent in a positive way,

Bringing the light of your message of hope to those around us by our words and actions.

Kind regards

Mrs Adams
