Head of School Blog - Week 13

YEAR 11 MOCK EXAMINATIONS

Year 11 have come to the end of their mock examinations today. I am extremely proud of how they have prepared for their mocks and I’m sure that this will be reflected in their results.  Student’s behaviour and attitude has been amazing and I would just like to thank you, as parents, for supporting your sons and daughters at this important time.  The year group enjoyed juice, hot chocolate and pastries this morning to celebrate the last day of exams.

HOPE ACADEMY – AUTHORISED VOUCHER DISTRIBUTORS

The academy are now an authorised distributor of food vouchers which means we are able to support struggling families much easier as we do not need to refer them to other agencies to obtain food vouchers which can be used at foodbanks throughout the borough.  There will also be a new foodbank opening at Newton Community Centre as of 4th December.  This facility will be open each Friday from 11.00am – 2.30pm. Please see Kasia for further information.

COVID-19 UPDATE

As we come to the end of the Autumn Term 2020, we would like to inform you of the relevant arrangements, should your child test positive for COVID-19 after we close at the end of the day on Friday 18th December 2020.

If your child tests positive for COVID-19 and displayed symptoms (at least one of the following: a high temperature, a new or continuous cough, a loss of or change to their sense of smell or taste) on any day that they were in school, and/or Saturday 19th December and Sunday 20th December, you should email school to notify us on hope@sthelens.org.uk as we may be required to ask members of our school community to self-isolate.

Also, if your child tests positive for COVID-19 following a test on Saturday 19th December or Sunday 20th December and your child did not display symptoms (asymptomatic), please also notify school as above.

Please include the following information in your email:

  • Your child’s name and class
  • Date and time of the onset of symptoms (if applicable)
  • Date of COVID-19 test
  • Date of positive outcome

School will respond to emails confirming positive COVID-19 cases until 24th December as directed by the Department for Education.

Should your child display or develop any symptoms after Sunday 20th December, you are required to follow the national test and trace procedures. For further information, please visit:

WORD OF THE WEEK – w/b Monday 14th December

KASIA’S REFLECTION

As we travelled through the second week of Advent, pupils have been keeping up with their Kindness Calendar by spreading Kindness throughout the Academy, and staff have been using their courageous Kindness Calendar to take part in campaigns in the wider world. Many of these campaigns look to spread Justice and Peace, and Peace is the theme of the Second Week of Advent.

Not surprisingly, the Bible has a lot to say about peace, as it attributes peace to Jesus himself: the ‘Prince of Peace’ (Isaiah 9:6). In fact, the word peace appears somewhere between 200-400 times in the Bible. The peace of God grants us a tranquillity you cannot find anywhere else, and offers a light to others who do not yet know that peace.

Loving God,

We thank you for the peace you give us through Jesus Christ.

Help us prepare our hearts to receive Him. Guide us in all that we say and do.

Amen.

Kind regards

Mrs Adams
