Principal's Blog - Week 9

I would like to start this week’s blog by sharing some of the wonderful activities that have taken place this week to remember those who have fought for our country both past and present.

Our students have taken part in a House challenge to create a poem or artwork that represents and symbolises Remembrance Day. We received an amazing number of entries and it was very tough picking a winner! Please a selection below:

On Thursday at 11.00am, the Academy fell silent for 2 minutes. Romero Manfredi lead us the whole school into a silent reflection by playing the ‘The Last Post’ on his ‘Soprano Cornet’. It was absolutely beautiful, thank you Romero.

Covid update

We have been advised by St Helens Immunisation Team that they will be coming into the academy later this month as part of the 12-15 COVID vaccination programme. To enable your child to receive this vaccine in school you will need to complete the electronic consent form by SUNDAY 13th NOVEMBER. The electronic consent form is embedded into the letter CLICK HERE

If consent is not completed and your child approaches the school-aged immunisation team whist they are at the Academy and they express a wish to be vaccinated, you will be contacted at a later date to discuss you and your child’s wishes. Please be reassured that the COVID-19 vaccine will not administer to your child in this instance.

We have been advised by St Helens Public Health that there is a new variant and it seems to be spreading quicker through 10-14 year olds. To keep our community safe, please test your child twice weekly, preferably on a Sunday and a Wednesday. Students should also be wearing a mask in communal areas whilst in the Academy, can you please ensure your child is bringing a mask to school with them.

Year 7 Parents Evening

On Wednesday 17th November we have our year 7 parents evening. Appointments can be made via School Cloud, details of how to make the appointments have been sent to all year 7 parents. If you are having any issues making an appointment, please contact

Outdoor wear

As we are approaching the winter months and as it gets colder (and wetter!), please remind students to bring a winter coat. Girls may also wear grey tights. Can I remind you that hoodies are not part of the school uniform and are not permitted.

House Badges

Our students have been busy creating House badges. All students will receive a badge representing their House which they will wear on their uniform. The badge designs are fantastic!

Student celebrations

Anna Healey in year 11 has competed in a major swimming competition recently and has achieved multiple qualification time for the Swim England Winter National Championships. Anna is hoping to qualify for the Commonwealth Games trials which will take place in the coming months and we wish her lots of luck.

Keane Bowes in year 7 has competed in a gymnastics tournament at the weekend and amazingly scored 66.9 out of a possible 70. Keane was awarded a silver medal and has now secured himself a place at a reward camp where he will be coached by the British Gymnastics Head National Coach. Congratulations!
