Applications
Within the Academy, sustainability will be applied to the curriculum practically, as well as theoretically, through:
| • |
the use of information about the environmental impact of the school building and its population, eg carbon emissions, energy efficiency, travel to school, recycling; |
| • |
the explicit nature of the building; its fabric and its functions; |
| • |
application of local environmental data; |
| • |
inclusion of thinking skills, learning skills and system thinking; |
| • |
links with local government and community and voluntary agencies and a “hands-on” involvement in local environmental and regeneration projects; |
| • |
practical positive engagement with the natural environment and its integrated use in the theoretical curriculum (e.g. the use of environmental data or land-based industries calculations as the context for science or maths programmes of study); |
| • |
a planned curriculum for learning outside the classroom; |
| • |
specific and discreet environmental / sustainability projects through integral and enrichment activities in the curriculum; |
| • |
creation of links to the developing world through faith links. |
