Our Christian Life

Hope Academy Prayer

Hope prayer

We embrace Christian life at Hope Academy by engaging with our local Christian communties. As a joint Catholic and Church of England Academy, we work closely with our local Catholic Priest, Fr. Benedict Ogbuevule, and our local Vicars, Rev. Chris Stafford and Rev. James Taylor.

There are a number of Christian Services throughout our school year, starting with a Joint Denominational Welcome Service for the Year 7s in October which welcomes them into the school community and anticipates the talents and skills we will nurture by celebrating our Academy Vision: 'Serve one another through love." (Galatians 5:13)

Since September 2023 we have both Catholic and Anglican services for our students, staff and local community in our chapel once a month.

There are services at both Christmas and Easter at our local churches and a host of events that pupils can be involved in to live out our Christian Vision, as can be seen from our Chaplaincy Calendar on the 'Calendar' tab found to the left of the screen.

Gospel: Sunday 5th May 2024

Each week during our first Inspire Session, we spend some time reflecting on Sunday's Gospel. (Resources adapted from Wednesday Word)

Thrive

'Thrive' material is produced by 'Roots on the Web'.  There is a fresh sheet every week based on the Lectionary readings, and it's designed to help us consider what the readings explore, what that means for you and how you will live your faith this week:

Christian Unity - At the Foot of the Cross Podcast

(from the Catholic Bishop's Conference of England and Wales 24th January 2024)

Foot of the cross

https://www.cbcew.org.uk/podcast/christian-unity-episode-19/

The first At the Foot of the Cross podcast of 2024 has a very ecumenical flavour to it. That is a word that can confuse rather than clarify so what we’re discussing today is dialogue and Christian unity.

There are many reasons for this. Firstly we have the Week of Prayer for Christian Unity, from 18-25 January, then, following hard on its heels, the Bishops of the Church of England and the Catholic Bishops will have their biannual joint meeting in Norwich on 30-31 January. They will explore a diverse range of subjects and discuss areas of common interest. They will also reflect on two great saints – Julian of Norwich and John Henry Newman – as well as share their experiences of synods and the Coronation of King Charles III.

The podcast discusses this important meeting, the nature of our unity with other Christian confessions and  experiences of the Week of Prayer for Christian Unity.
