Principal's Blog Week 2

Students have had a great start to the new term and I have really enjoyed seeing them back in the academy. It is lovely to see many smiling faces, both within lessons and during social times. Students have returned with enthusiasm and a willingness to learn. We are all looking forward to the term ahead.

Schools were required to test students for COVID-19 upon their return to school. We have had a busy week of testing and I would like to thank parents for your support. The onsite testing is now almost complete and it is the expectation that students test twice weekly at home, on a Sunday and Wednesday, to help stop COVID-19 coming into the academy. Information on what to do if your child tests positive on a Lateral Flow test can be found within the St Helens Council letter HERE

I would also like to thank you for your support with our uniform and standards. Students have come into the academy looking smart and are a wonderful representation of the academy in the community. For any student whose uniform did not meet our standards and expectations, you will have received a letter from us. The deadline for uniform adjustments is Wednesday 15th September. Please click HERE to view our uniform standards and expectations.

Our dates for parent’s evenings have all been set and you can see the dates of your child’s parents evening in the table below:

We will be holding parents evenings on site this year unless we get advised otherwise nearer the time. We look forward to welcoming parents back into the academy.

I am very excited that we are able to hold our Open Morning on site this year. All prospective parents of year 5 and year 6 students are invited to visit us on Saturday 25th September between 9.00am – 1.00pm. We have a very exciting day planned. The information leaflet can be found HERE

The Queen will be celebrating her Platinum Jubilee next year and as such we will get an extra bank holiday to celebrate. Monday 30th May will no longer be a bank holiday, instead it will moved to Thursday 2nd June with the additional holiday being on Friday 3rd June. With this being in our school holidays, we are required to give the bank holiday back to staff and students at another time. In order to provide the least disruption to learning, we have decided to finish for the summer holidays one day earlier than planned. Our last day in the academy will now be Tuesday 19th July.

Attendance

We have appointed a Lead Attendance Officer who will play a vital role in ensuring students attend the academy and receive the education that is so important for their futures. Our Lead Attendance Officer will challenge students punctuality as well as attendance. Can I please remind you that any holidays must be taken in school holiday time and not term time. Just one week away from the classroom can have a massive impact on a child’s education. Thank you in advance for your support.

Hope Identity

We have been welcoming our Hope Family, both old and new, back into the Academy this week, and it has been wonderful to see how smart the Class of 2026 look and how ambitious everyone is to be Outstanding In All We Do!

We have focused on our Hope Identity during Inspire and Collective Worship to remind everyone of the Hope Way and our Core Values of Respect, Courage and Ambition. I have been presenting Year Group Collective Worship in the Main Hall each morning with Mrs. Adams, and I can’t describe how much we have both enjoyed seeing everyone sat in front of us! It is wonderful to see everyone’s face rather than a screen, and to use our Collective Worship Focal Table again!

As we start our new Academic Year, let us keep focused on the Core Values that make us our own special Hope Family:

Respect – To show regard and consideration of the feelings, values, wishes and rights of others. To admire someone’s abilities, qualities or achievements.

Courage – To demonstrate mental or moral strength during times of danger, fear or difficulty.

Ambition – To strive to achieve goals. To desire to improve oneself through dedication to a cause.

As we come back to the Academy, let us also remember that we are a beacon of light to show others how a joint faith community can work in harmony to bring out the best in each other. This has been reflected in our new House Structure where each house is named after an ecumenical Christian community – Taizé, Iona, Corrymeela and Othona. I am excited to see what this brings to our Academy and what we can learn from these beautiful communities.

Let us pray together for the year ahead:

Loving God,

Encircle Hope Academy and keep these good things within:

Eagerness to learn and the blossoming of talents, a sense of wonder, the warmth of friendship, the art of listening, service to others, respect for all, courage, and ambition.

May we use our gifts to create an Academy where love and justice reign and where wisdom and responsibility can be seen in our actions, so that our wellbeing can flourish.

We ask this through Christ our Lord,

Amen.
