Rotary Club Young Chef competition

Year 7 student Isabella Smithson made it to the fourth round (district final) of the Rotary Club Young chef of the year competition competing with students from ages 11-16.

During the first two rounds Isabella had to make a two course meal in 90 minutes, whilst in the third and fourth rounds she had to prepare a 3 course meal in two hours.

In the District Final Isabella prepared the following menu:

Pan fried Gnocchi - which wowed the judges

Gutted and filleted her own seabass for the main course

Layered filo pastry with seasonal fruits

Isabella had two coaching sessions at St Helens College; they gave excellent feedback and support on how Isabella could improve on her dishes.

During the final Isabella worked professionally throughout the competition and was commended by the judges for how calm she was in a stressful situation.

Well done Isabella!

The young chef competition is open to years 7-10 and it will begin again in November. Visit Food Technology and speak to Miss Sargent for further information.
