Head of School blog - Week 11

This week has been a week of celebration for our community!  As mentioned in last week’s blog, Twitter is a great way to keep up-to-date on the daily activities throughout the academy.  https://twitter.com/Hope_Academy.

This year’s Year 7 Retreats took place on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday this week.  The Animate Youth Team from Lowe House in St. Helens delivered sessions which incorporated a number of fun activities with insightful reflections on scripture.

The theme of the retreat was Community, and it focused on our three core values of Respect, Courage and Ambition. The day was based around a piece of scripture from Corinthians 12:27 which highlights the importance of us all being part of the same body with different skills.

Students took part in a variety of tasks, ranging from a ‘Crystal Maze’ team game to a ‘Game of Life’ individual task, and a number of others in between!

Students had a fun time and got the opportunity to reflect on how to treat others and how to live out our academy core values.

On Wednesday evening we welcomed nearly 200 parents/carers and students to our year 11 Preparing to Perform event.  Teachers from each subject area shared important information to support our students in the build up to their mock examinations in January.  Feedback was extremely positive and I would like to thank year 11 families for attending this event.  All subject presentations and handouts will be added to the website early next week – you will receive a text to confirm when they are available.

Year group celebration lunches have taken place every day this week.  Students from each form have been invited to lunch with their Head of Year and Pastoral Manager– this is a reward for students who have been outstanding in a particular area, such as; attendance, positive attitude to their learning, LORIC skills and achievement points.  These celebrations will take place each half term.  Well done to all 86 students!

We have been working hard reviewing and updating our website. The CEIAG (Careers, Education, Information, Advice and Guidance) section has lots of information regarding the support provided for each year group.  It also has a section specifically for you, our parents/carers.  Please follow the link and take some time to look at the wonderful opportunities your children are being offered at the academy. /1367/careers-education-information-advice-guidance-ceiag

If you have any questions regarding CEIAG please contact Miss L Davies (louise.davies@sthelens.org.uk)

As the days are getting colder and wetter, Kasia, our Chaplain has launched the ‘Collect A Coat’ appeal.

If you have any old coats lying about the house that are too small for your children, or you have a new coat and the old one is taking up space, please bring it to the chapel!  Once we have a rail of coats, we can encourage students we see without a coat to come to the chapel and find one that fits! Students may borrow these coats at break and lunch to keep them warm and dry during the winter months.

Year 8 parents – all year 8 reports have now been uploaded to the SIMS app. Please have a look if you haven’t already done so.

Finally, we are busy planning events for December including dates for our whole school Christmas dinner and the ever popular Christmas jumper day.  I look forward to confirming arrangements in next week’s blog.  I have added important calendar events taking place from now until the end of December.
