Knowledge Organisers

In years 7 & 8 homework is based on the work set in a knowledge organiser.

What is a Knowledge Organiser?

  • Set of key facts or information that students need to know and be able to recall in order to master a unit or topic
  • Typically an organiser fits onto one page of A4 this helps pupils to visualize the layout of the page which in turn helps them to memorise the information better

Typically, most youngsters leave their revision until a few weeks or days/hours before the examinations.  The secret to success is to regularly revisit the knowledge to be learned. This helps transfer the knowledge from the short-term memory to the long term memory.  Knowledge organisers are appropriate for revision and preparing the students for their examinations they will take at the end of Key Stage 4.

Students will use the following process to complete the Knowledge Organiser tasks:

Knowledge organisers

  1. Memorise a section of the organiser
  2. Cover up the section memorised
  3. Write it out from memory (in a black or blue pen)
  4. Self-check and correct any spelling mistakes, missing bits or mistakes (in a red pen)
